Last night just before bed, the link arrived for the Testing report by James Brausch (mentioned in my previous blog post). So this morning I read it.

Not surprisingly it is a promotion for one of his own products and his intern program but that’s not a problem to me. And I hope it’s not a problem to you when a marketer finds innovative ways to get his stuff out there in front of more new folks.

As such, this is a good ‘un.

So what’s in this 15 page PDF?

James used his MuVar (his MUlti VARiable split testing software) to see the impact of changing a handful of elements on the page where folks can sign up to take a look at his free intern program.

The variables he tested were:

- blank lines at the top of the page .v. none
- headline font size
- headline font color (navy .v. dark red)
- having NO headline .v. several headlines
- picture or not? He tested 8 different pictures with widely varying results
- testimonials + the background color of the box
- the call to action
- signature .v. none
- bottom margin .v. none

Minor annoyances:

1. The PDF is laid out in 2 columns which means scrolling down then up, down then up, etc to read it.
2. The final link (to subscribe, of all things) doesnt work.

Overall:

A great eye opener in the James Brausch tradition. Worth reading.
